Title ShortThe Heat + Eat Collective’s approach: A Mutual Aid Initiative

Experience DescriptionHeat + Eat Collective is a grassroots mutual aid project built around a simple but deeply human idea: sometimes people need food, but often what we really need is relief, connection, and the feeling that we are not carrying everything alone. Whether someone is navigating illness, a new baby, burnout, caregiving, job loss, grief, isolation, disability, or simply the rising exhaustion of trying to hold life together, sharing meals can create breathing room in tangible ways. This session explores the philosophy, structure, and lived reality behind Heat + Eat Collective’s community cooking model, including what has worked, what has been unexpectedly hard, and why relational care matters as much as (more than) the food itself. This conversation is an invitation to imagine what becomes possible when ordinary people decide to build support systems together and adapt them within their own communities.
