Title ShortShadow Work: Jungian Psychology For Our Times
    Venue Oasis
Experience DescriptionCarl Jung formulated the concept of the shadow (the unconscious, hidden, or repressed aspects of the psyche) and advocated shadow integration, popularly known as \shadow work.\ Jung viewed the integration of the shadow as central to the process of individuation, a method of making the unconscious conscious to achieve psychological wholeness. While commonly seen as undesirable traits, Jung noted that the shadow can hold repressed positive traits (like creativity or assertiveness). He believed the shadow is encountered through reflection, understanding projections (noticing what you dislike in others), and therapeutic analysis. \The gold in the shadow\ refers to the repressed positive qualities, talents, and unrealized potential hidden in the subconscious. It represents the untapped greatness and creative power, alongside the darker, rejected traits of the personal shadow. The Shadow does not contain only the dark, negative side of the self, but also the \hidden potential\ or \light\ that is banished into the unconscious, often stemming from childhood repression or societal pressure. Jung believed that integrating these hidden, positive, or powerful traits is crucial for personal growth, self-actualization, and achieving a state of wholeness or individuation. Integrating the gold in the shadow reveals one's own strengths—often projected onto others—enabling personal empowerment. In this talk, Jungian psychoanalyst Tony Caldwell explored these concepts in a practical, down-to-earth way that makes Jung's work applicable to daily life as we navigate all that we encounter in our inner and outer worlds.
