Title ShortAdvocating to End Global Violence Against Women
    Venue Convo Table 02
Experience DescriptionWomen are disproportionally impacted by war and armed conflicts while also potentially having a pivotal role in the peacemaking process. Sudan, Palestine, DRC, Nigeria, and Ethiopia are contexts that are ravaged by violent conflicts including Kidnapping and Gender-Based Violence. The devastating effects mean that many women and children are often widowed or orphaned. Trauma includes loss of life, GBV, and increased Internally Displaced Persons, the destruction of properties and livelihood, and the eradication of families. A critical challenge is Gender Injustice leading to marginalization of women. Nigeria, Ethiopia, DRC, and Sudan are patriarchal societies with women subjected to ridicule, GBV, neglect, and violation of Human Rights. Religious, societal, and cultural norms often contribute to this continuing disparity. Advocacy at the United Nations means we bring the voices of women on the frontlines into the global context where decisions are made. During this workshop we’ll share these voices, their contexts, and how the global community can support this advocacy. You’ll see personal testimonies from the grassroots and hear the stories of those most impacted. At the UCC our mission is “A Just World for All” and this means justice for women in all contexts.
