Experience DescriptionHad I a Dove, Post Trauma Writing Workshop I will present the immediate struggles in my community of Sugar Grove, NC after the Helene Flood. Then, I will focus on why I decided to propose an anthology and the unexpected trials and processing I went through while editing the award-winning anthology, Had I a Dove: Appalachian Poets on the Helene Flood released in September 2025, a year after the flood. Utilizing poems from the anthology, I will emphasize the book’s title to prompt a generative writing workshop. Had I a Dove is derived from Wayne Caldwell’s poem in the book. I will talk about the inferences of this phrase that became so meaningful for me personally and for the anthology which exists as proof that listening, writing, and telling our stories can help with overcoming any type of trauma. A greater purpose results in considering the environmental effects of global warming, deforestation, and extraction industries. No writing experience is necessary.
