    Fri 4 Sep 2026 11:00 AM to 11:50 AM
Title ShortCULTIVATING HOPE, JOY & RESILIENCE IN HEART-WRENCHING TIMES
    Venue Episcopal
Experience DescriptionFeminist author Rebecca Solnit says hope is “an act of defiance…a gamble, a bet on our future…that an open heart and uncertainty is better than gloom and safety.” \I choose joy over despair…because joy is what the earth gives me daily--I must return the gift.\ Robin Wall Kimmerer So many of us carry deep grief, verging on despair—for our nation, for our planet, as well as in our own unique sorrows. How do we avoid being sunk into hopelessness by the weight of the pain & anger at injustice that we carry? In this highly experiential experience, we will create a safe container, through the use of participatory exercises, journaling, music & dialogue, for exploring how we can each water the seeds of joy, hope and resilience in our lives. This stance does not shy away from the pain. Rather, we cultivate a discipline, an inner grounding, that empowers us to work for a more just world. We will exercise our “hope and joy muscles” in a community of mutual learning, drawing upon the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu’s Book of Joy and the wisdom of cherished spiritual elders
