Dr Kevin Jenson

I’m Dr. Kevin Jenson. I have a PhD and an MDiv (in progress), but more importantly, I have the scars of someone who tried to live by the “old rules” and broke. I returned to the ancient texts to find a way out. There I discovered a God who loves the body and a theology that integrates faith and sexuality into one Incarnational reality! λογοσ σαρξ εγενετο Using a uniquely biblical method of textual analysis, I am developing a scholarly foundation for a new understanding of porneia and its use in New Testament texts (*hint – it’s not fornication). I also draw on original research and experience as an educator with Human Centered Learning LLC to partner with ministry leaders in the design and facilitation of embodied, transformational learning experiences! It takes more than a good speech to rewrite the story of the body, of sexuality, and of human identity! #sacrednotsinful

Title ShortTake Back the Bible from \theo-bros\ - Reclaim A Liberative Reading
    Venue Convo Table 07
Experience DescriptionFor students, scholars, teachers, and pastors who are sick of “biblical authority” being weaponized for abuse. There are 7 key fallacies that you can use to identify issues of biblical (mis)interpretation. Misreading of the text happens at the level of the individual reader, their Christian community, historically dominant perspectives, the writings of the Bible, the experiences of the biblical authors, the materiality of creation, and the illusive nature truth itself. But these fallacies also provide an invitation to carefully look at where our reading goes wrong! It is possible to overcome each one of challenges - and when we do, it often leads to an empowering, inspiring, and life-giving reading of the text. In this workshop I present a “full-stack” hermeneutical method that I developed in my research on *porneia* to show how these fallacies turned a New Testament teaching about “Christian nationalism” into a prohibition of premarital sex. Along with providing my own example, I will be walking you through the method with your own Bible passage, so please bring a question you want to deconstruct! What would happen if the Bible ended up on the side of liberation instead of oppression?
