Greg Mellor

Greg's ministerial and work experience includes high school and college campus ministry as well as prison chaplaincy. His educational background is in philosophy, theology, and Christian spirituality. In February of 2025, he resigned from his role as Catholic Chaplain at California State Prison, Sacramento in Folsom, CA, in order to explore Catholic Worker life. From July, 2025 to June, 2026, Greg worked and lived with the Los Angeles Catholic Worker Community where he focused his energy on building community and preparing free meals at the Hippie Kitchen in the Skid Row neighborhood. After a six-year stint in CA, Greg recently returned to the East Coast to move closer to family and to pursue Catholic Worker life in Baltimore. Greg also serves as a spiritual director and is a certified enneagram teacher in the Narrative Tradition.

    The Spiritual Direction Team will be available to all festival attendees throughout the weekend.

    Spiritual Direction is the ancient practice of a “soul friend” who accompanies others on their spiritual journey, helping them to notice, discern, and claim their own experience of God. It is likely that you will encounter the “Wild Goose” in a variety of ways during the next several days.

    The Spiritual Direction Team is available throughout the weekend to companion folks for spiritual exploration, processing, conversation, companionship, and/or prayer during 45 minute individual sessions. Signups are at the Spiritual Direction tent where there are also self-led contemplative practices to foster the creative, mystical spirit in you!

    Experience DescriptionWhat happens when prisoners at Folsom State Prison in California are provided with space and time in Greystone Chapel to sit in silence? \Holding Still\ features candid and insightful interviews with former prisoners who share about their experience of practicing Centering Prayer while incarcerated. This experience is twofold. After viewing this short documentary, participants will be invited to engage in the practice of Centering Prayer as practiced at Folsom Prison and as taught by the late Trappist priest Fr. Thomas Keating. Co-Creator Greg Mellor has taught Centering Prayer inside and outside of prison, and he will provide instructions and guidance to enter into the silence. Time will also be allotted for small group and large group reflection. Come experience the power of Centering Prayer and it's ability to unbound the heart and soul!

Such an encounter must also include a courageous willingness to be stretched and guided in new and surprising ways. With the use of Melanie Weidner's Wisdom and Art cards, come explore how the Spirit might be speaking to you in this very moment and nudging you into new life and possibilities. Melanie is an artist and spiritual companion from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her artwork is crafted to empower and inspire people to discover possibility and inner wisdom. Co-creator Greg Mellor has conducted reflection circles inside and outside of prison using Melanie's Wisdom and Art cards. This experience will include self-reflection, one on one connection, and group sharing.
