BETWEEN

BETWEEN

Matthew G. Mattson (Matt) is a writer, speaker, social mystic, and spiritual leader devoted to cultivating sacred human connection. He is the founder of BETWEEN, a highly inclusive, love-filled global faith community exploring what it means to encounter the sacred beyond walls, doctrines, and certainty. Matt’s work blends ancient wisdom with modern longing, inviting people to rediscover faith as presence, curiosity, and relationship. With a background in education, leadership, and entrepreneurship, he has spent his career growing purpose-driven communities and helping people find meaning in the spaces between us. His book Cathedrals of Connection invites readers into the simplest church on earth: the sacred space between themselves and the next person they encounter.

Experience DescriptionWhat if the most sacred spaces of our time aren’t made of stone, but of presence, curiosity, and courage? Drawing from his new book Cathedrals of Connection, Matthew G. Mattson (Matt) invites participants into a re-imagining of faith that centers human connection as holy ground. In a world marked by loneliness, polarization, and spiritual fatigue, this session explores how everyday encounters—across difference, doubt, and longing—can become sites of deep meaning and transformation. Through story, reflection, and gentle audience engagement, Matt shares a vision of faith that emerges not from certainty or doctrine, but from attention, listening, and love. From coffee shop tables to hospital rooms, from chance conversations to difficult reckonings, the book insists that the sacred is often hiding in plain sight—waiting for us to slow down enough to notice one another. This talk offers language and hope for those who are weary of religious noise but still hungry for depth. Participants will leave with a renewed sense that sacred moments are not rare or reserved, but practiced—again and again—in the brave, ordinary work of showing up for each other.

Experience DescriptionMany progressive faith communities feel caught between urgency and exhaustion—longing to grow and reach new people, but deeply resistant to manipulation, marketing gimmicks, or hustle-driven models of belonging. The result is often a quiet despair: caring deeply, doing good work, and still feeling stuck. This workshop offers a countercultural alternative. Drawing from his own experience building a new, highly inclusive faith community—and walking alongside local churches navigating similar tensions—Matt Mattson introduces The Slow Work of Sacred Community: a relational, ethical, and spiritually grounded approach to growth rooted in trust, presence, and invitation rather than pressure. This work emerges not from theory alone, but from the lived realities of trying to grow something meaningful without losing one’s soul. Participants will explore how communities actually grow—not through shortcuts, shame, or branding tricks, but through clarity of purpose, courageous invitation, and consistent relational practices over time. Together, we’ll examine the stories we tell about decline, the fears that keep us silent, and the simple, faithful actions that make growth possible again. Blending teaching, reflection, and small-group conversation, this workshop helps leaders re-imagine growth not as compromise or capitulation, but as an act of love—and a gift worth sharing.
