| Title Short | Feel the Moon: Developing an embodied relationship to earth's nearest celestial body |
| Venue | Other |
| Experience Description | The moon is more than a shape in the sky: It's an object moving through space. As it \wanes\ throughout the festival, we can check in with its position from one morning to the next to witness its journey around our spinning planet.
By watching it \set\ behind the trees (approx noon, 1pm, and 2pm on each of the festival's days), we can start to feel the earth turning beneath us.
By contemplating the illumination of the part of the moon that faces sunward, we can feel earth's position in reference to its celestial companions.
The moon's constant companionship can ground folks during tumultuous times, offering a gentle stability that includes and transcends our planet, a relationship that deepens over time.
Will Rogers will facilitate a lunar conversation as we wait for the moment of moonset, offering a related poem, and offering the experience as a poem.
NOTE: Meet at Science Tent on Friday at 12:30 PM. If it's cloudy, we'll try again on Saturday at 1:30.

| Title Short | Divine Interruption: An early Quaker practice worth reviving? |
| Venue | Convo Table 03 |
| Experience Description | The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) have a history of protest and a practice of sitting in silence. This workshop weaves both of these elements in a way that could be of use during these times.
“Worship sharing” is Friends' practice of inviting people to sit in silence and speak out of the silence, similar to the more well-known “Unprogrammed Meeting for Worship, with an important difference: in Worship Sharing, each person present is encouraged to speak.
Will Rogers is a Quaker facilitating a Worship Sharing session around the theme of interrupting church services, something that happened often during the first wave of Quakerism: An Early Friend would sit in a church service until hearing something objectionable and feeling led by the Divine to speak, at which point they would stand and speak, interrupting the sermon with disagreement and an indication to startled listeners of a more correct direction. This practice led to some congregants joining Friends’ ranks, and it led to some Friends being imprisoned and banished from the church.
Participants are invited to imagine a circumstance in which the Divine might lead them to interrupt a religious service, and to share related experiences from their past.
Participants are encouraged to leave cell phones behind before attending this session. |
