Joy is a spiritual director deeply attuned to the Divine Feminine, guiding the many facets of the soul with curiosity, compassion, and care. She blends this devotion with Internal Family Systems, inviting gentle journeys into the inner landscape. Through Ligare, a Christian psychedelic society, she leads Tending the Divine Feminine, a circle for the sacred integration of expanded states of consciousness. With dual master’s degrees in Theology and Christian Education, Joy has long moved as a thoughtful outlier within academic Christianity. She is founder of the Spiritual Life Center of Virginia, LLC, and co-founder of Church of the Wild River, a contemplative, earth-honoring community. Through retreats, circles, and nuanced guidance, Joy creates spaces where the sacred meets the self, where spirit and soul dance in transformation, and where every encounter becomes a passage into deeper knowing.

| Experience Description | This year, the Christian psychedelic society, Ligare, is offering a Psychedelic Confessional in the Grove.This venue provides a sacred and confidential space for spiritual guidance, integration, and discernment. Many people have had profound psychedelic experiences—whether recently or decades ago—but often lack a safe place to wonder about their deeper meaning, to explore their spiritual dimensions, or to integrate what they encountered into their lived experience. This venue exists to hold that space.With trained spiritual directors, participants are invited to gently unpack the spiritual aspects of their experiences, ask honest and holy questions, and discern how moments of expanded consciousness might continue to bear fruit in their lives. Even experiences from long ago may still carry wisdom waiting to be received.This is also a welcoming space for those who have never had a psychedelic experience but are curious about the spiritual, theological, or contemplative questions that often surround them. Come for guidance, education, and grounded spiritual conversation.Please note: This space is for spiritual guidance and education only. | Experience Description | As interest in psychedelic experiences becomes more common in spiritual spaces, more people are talking about the Divine Feminine showing up in these journeys. In many of the world’s major religions, images of God have mostly been male. But in psychedelic experiences, many people describe encountering motherly figures, ancient goddesses, dark womb-like spaces, or loving earth spirits. These beings often feel caring, deeply relational, and strongly protective.
This experience welcomes everyone — whether or not you have had a psychedelic journey. Through conversation and the experiential invocation of feminine energies, we’ll wonder how these expanded states of consciousness might loosen strict hierarchies and help people intuitively reconnect to the deeply feminine nature of embodiment: being in a body that feels, grieves, and belongs to the Earth.
We’ll also ask whether these repeated visions are just personal symbols, or part of a reawakening of the Sacred Mother that goes beyond religion, culture, race, or location. In this time of global polycrisis, many people feel a deep longing for the energy of the Great Mother: not as a particular belief system, but as wisdom rooted in relationship and unconditional love. Together, we’ll explore what it means that so many are encountering Her now.
