 Matt Hartley

Matt Hartley is a Christian Interfaith Educator and Adjunct Professor of Religion at University of North Florida. He served as Director of the UNF Interfaith Center from 2018 to 2023. He earned a Master’s of Arts in Religion from University of Florida and has served in professional ministry for 20 years. He preaches at churches around the Jacksonville, FL community, specializing in topics of diversity and Interfaith connection. His latest work was helping launch the nonprofit, Young Adult Transformation Collective, which supports young adult through discernment programs and equips the professionals who accompany them.

    Experience DescriptionWhat would it mean to find work, faith, and community involvement which serves a just world? This workshop is intended for young adults and anyone trying to find their way with integrity and creativity. Late stage capitalism makes it demands on us, offering us limited options for work while demanding full consumer commitment. But decisions we make about our lifeways, from work, to how we spend time, money, and community, can be unbound from these constraints. When we tune ourselves to faith or worldview rooted in justice and solidarity, we can make new ways for ourselves and others. This may cause us to challenge work others expect of us and leadership lessons which are actually conditioning us to not question an unjust status quo. What we will find is uncertain but only because we will be creating a new world, where work, faith, and community involvement are not oriented toward maintaining but toward transforming. In this workshop, we will explore these angles, with insights from transformational leaders and wise guides, and with the collective wisdom found among us in the moment. We are better together. Our hope is in finding each other. We can co-create a new world together.
